South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has finally made official its successor for the LG Optimus Vu phablet that was announced last year.
Dubbed Optimus Vu II, the new device comes with the same 5-inch touchscreen display as the original, while also maintaining the 4:3 aspect ratio that set it apart from the rival Galaxy Note from Samsung.
Unfortunately, the company announced the new smartphone only for its homeland market, and hasn’t provided specific info on whether or when it might hit shelves internationally.
In South Korea, the new device will be released in three color flavors, namely black, white, and pink, and is expected to boast a price tag of 966,900 Won (around $865 / 670 Euro).
In addition to the large touchscreen display that can deliver a 1024 x 768 pixels resolution, the new handset sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor complemented by 2GB of RAM, which should offer enough raw power.
Moreover, it was packed with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording, as well as with a 1.3MP camera on the front, great for making video calls.
The LG Optimus Vu II also sports WiFi (802.11 a / b / g / n), Bluetooth 4.0/APT-X Codec, MHL, NFC, USB 2.0, DLNA, Wi-Fi direct, and Miracast capabilities, while being released with LTE connectivity packed inside (and support for VoLTE).
The new device is powered by a 2,150mAh battery, while running under Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. LG also loaded the device with its own user interface, for a better mobile experience.
Although LG did not announce specific info on the matter, chances are that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will arrive on this smartphone in the not too distant future.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before the South Korean handset vendor makes the handset available in more markets around the world as well, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
