Dogfight of Motorola Xoom and Asus transformer

The first HoneyComb tablet, the Motorola XOOM is one of the most famous Android tablets in the world, as HoneyComb was first unveiled on it and created a lot of Buzz. however the EEE Pad from Asus has been one of the most spoken about tablets in the HoneyComb Tablets section, as it comes with a keyboard dock and packs lots of power in it and the keyboard dock which makes it as functional as a laptop at times too.
When putting a comparison together, Asus Transformer vs Xoom, then it is immediately obvious that both are Android 3.0 devices, both have the nVidia Tegra dual core processor running on 1 GHz and both have 1GB RAM memory and both have up to 32 GB flash memory capability.

Display

If we talk about the display, both these tablets have same size display but they have different resolution. The display of Motorola Xoom is 10.1 inch with the resolution of 800×1280 pixels having a pixel density of 149 ppi supports 16 M colors but the Eee Pad Transformer is also has 10.1 inch similar to Motorola xoom, with the resolution of 1280×800 pixels supports 256 K colors. These tablets come with same features like multi touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, Gyroscope and barometer sensors. The display of both devices are scratch resistant, but they do not have Gorilla Glass. The Eee Pad Transformer has IPS multi touch screen with the same resolution but the Motorola Xoom has TFT capacitive touchscreen.

Camera

Both the tablets come with cameras and the EEE Pad has a 5 megapixel camera with a single LED flash with a resolution of 2592×1944 pixels. On the other hand, the Motorola XOOM's camera also has a similar camera unit, with a 5MP camera and a resolution of 3264×2448 pixels. There's Geo Tagging also on both the tablets, the XOOM and the EEE Pad, thanks to the A-GPS chip on it and Android HoneyComb.

The Asus EEE Pad Transfoemr comes with a single LED flash and autofocus while the Motorola XOOM comes with auto focus and dual-LED flash. Coming to the video recording capabilities, the both the devices record HD video at 720p at 30 frames per second.

The XOOM and Asus EEE Pad Transformer have a secondary front facing camera, 2MP in resolution and is used for video calling for various apps on the Android platform such as Skype, Fring etc and can also be used for regular camera purposes and apps.

Operating System And UI

Both these tablets Motorola Xoom and the Eee Pad Transformer runs on Android 3.1 operating system.The Motorola Xoom and Eee Pad Transformer prime have the update to the latest version of Android 3.2. The Motorola Xoom is more or less similar to stock Android Honeycomb as it does not change much of UI while the Asus Eee Pad transformer has lot of user tweaks overall in User Interface.

Connectivity

Both the tablets support HSDPA on 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 on 3G and comes with a standard SIM Card slot, if you are going for the 3G Model. The 3G version of the Motorola XOOM costs 100$ higher than the standard version and the EEE Pad TF101G is also similarly priced, but note that the TF101G is not available in most of the regions around the world. So do check out in the market for its availability before going ahead for it.

A-GPS support for location and navigation are also present and both devices have Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0 connectivity, along with a HDMI port on both the tablet making it a true entertainer on the move. The HDMI port allows you to connect your tablet to a large screen and enjoy your HD Videos you'd shot on your tablet or movies you'd recently transferred onto it.

The EEE Pad Transformer comes with a keyboard dock, which makes typing of long emails/documents very easy, and also enhances productivity on a tablet.

Memory

The Eee Pad Transformer comes with 32 GB internal storage and microSD slot but the Xoom comes with 16/32/64 GB versions and microSD upto 32 GB.

Processor and Battery

The Eee Pad has a 1 GHz Dual-core NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processor with 1GB of DDR2 RAM while the Motorola XOOM has a similar 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra T20 1.0GHz Processor with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. GPU is from Nvidia GeForce.

The EEE Pad Transformer comes with Li-Ion 24.2Wh Standard battery which gives approximately 9.5 hrs of battery life while the Motorola XOOM comes with two 3250mAh batteries and both the tablets claim to provide over10 hours of continuous usage very easily, when used continuously for multimedia features.
